Sure is fun down here

Well I haven’t posted in quite a while, but everyone is doing well in the big City. Delaney is a swimming fish, still in lessons and will be through Christmas. Noah is as tall as a 19 month old could be. He currently is starting to say real phrases, and showcasing just how intelligent he really is. I think its funny when he tries to boss around his big Sister. Taste of her own medicine. He follows her around like a puppy and tries to do everything she does. That is a good thing and a bad one, but we are living and learning with each move they make.

For me, its travel, work, travel, family…. I think it’s a delicate balance I can walk pretty well, but after I get back from Paris, I am going to try to slow it down for the rest of the year.

Oh and Thanksgiving this year will be in Huntsville, AL. We haven’t been there as a family and its definately time to go. Should be fun.

Ahhh, a post with a hidden list.

Had a great weekend with pool time Sat. and Sun., watermelon, a short nap (for me) yesterday, and some progress on the laundry monster (will conquer it tonight). I still have a couple of small ‘just get off your ass and do them’ projects for the week that I had hoped to get done, but the siren song of the couch won out last night after the kids were down. I think once I am able to watch everything saved on my DVR the couch song will be muted. Oh well, at least I cleaned up the kitchen before I went to bed. That’s progress over last weeks nightly habit of leaving a sink full of festering dishes to deal with ‘later’. It’s no wonder we are battling the tiny sugar ants in the kitchen. Trey and Margaret came to my rescue a couple of nights last week so we didn’t end up eating out due to a dirty kitchen (which is a poor excuse to eat out, but to get dinner on the table in less the 30 minutes after walking in the door I have to start with a reasonably clean slate).

There is still a smallish pile of dirt in our driveway. It’s really hard for Trey and I to work together to get all of it spread. The kids won’t stay in the backyard sandbox, won’t stay in a sprinkler set up for them to run through, won’t stay in the front yard at all without trying to ‘take a walk’. Basically they won’t stay put. I need one of those tiny dog obedience whistles or something. So I took the kids to the pool Saturday while Trey stayed behind to try and get the rest of the pile distributed on his own. He made some serious progress, but we have run out of places to put the dirt. We will probably spread the rest of it in Brenda’s (our neighbor) front yard. A load or two have already made it over there, but we weren’t sure if she wanted us messing with her yard. She came over with a gift of vodka for just the little bit that we did get over there, so Trey wants to try and put the rest out tonight (anyone want a bottle of flavored vodka?). She says she wants to do it herself to get the exercise, but we really just want the pile out of our driveway as quick as possible so we can park the car there again.

I have a long list of half-finished projects and other small maintenance things that need to be taken care of. I finally moved the towel rack to the mounts on the wall behind the toilet in the kid’s bathroom. One of the mounts where it was originally installed (on the opposing wall) started pulling out of the drywall. When we had the guys come and repair the drywall in that bathroom they misunderstood us and worked around the old drywall mounts. By the time we realized what happened it was too late. The towel rod had come off the wall a number of times in the past months, but it finally gave up something like 6 weeks ago; I am that much of a slacker. Now Trey and I have to find a new towel rod with larger decorative plates where it mounts to the wall to cover up the damaged spots. That probably won’t happen until I finally get to tear the wallpaper out of the downstairs bathroom and need to find fixtures for in there too.

Other things that are on my ‘do this instead of watching TV, you will feel better if you just get them done’ list: curtains for Delaney and Noah’s room, finish Kelly and Steven’s quilts, hang up some already mounted photos and decorations, get some photos printed and mount and hang them, pull wallpaper from downstairs bathroom, and the ever-present meal planning, laundry, and cleaning cycle. I have been putting these things off forever, but with the maintenance cleaning now being taken care of by Sandra I have no excuse but to get them taken care of.

I finally set an alarm for this morning and promised myself that I would adhere to it no matter how many times my sleep was interrupted. It totally changes my outlook on the day when I wake up for myself instead of being greeted in the morning to a facefull of “I want milk” from Delaney. I thought the extra 10 minutes or so of sleep were worth it, but if I wake up to the alarm I can take a few minutes to wake up my mind and gather my thoughts before having to be ready to face the day. It is much better than hitting the ground running with the Delaney and Noah alarm system. Hopefully this gets me one step closer to having a smoother morning routine so that I can get to work early enough to go to the gym at lunch or leave on time so I can get a little activity in at the house before starting dinner. I think Delaney’s behavior would improve if we were able to do something together when we got home from work instead of me trying to put her off to get dinner made. Something physical to get the over abundant toddler energy.

Having Noah’s crib in the room with Delaney has made such a big difference with the quality of our sleep. We are not constantly waking each other up with every cough or sneeze and he is waking up only once in the middle of the night now. There are occasional whimpers around 10:30 when he wakes up a little bit, but he had been good at getting back to sleep on his own. Somewhere between 2 and 4 he wakes up screaming and I go in there because I am afraid he will wake up Delaney. She has slept through his crying many times, but it only takes me 5 minutes to get him to go back to sleep and I am still so drowsy at the end of it I slide back into bed and am asleep before my head hits the pillow. If Delaney wakes up I am in for a full half hour of her being awake and trying to justify that she doesn’t need to go back to sleep. By the time I am done reasoning with her I am all the way awake and it then takes another 15 minutes or so to get back to sleep myself. 5 minutes or 45? I think I’ll take the Noah break.

Weekend

This past weekend we had grand plans to ride 25 miles in the Puddle for the Ducks fundraiser bike ride. We need the seat time to train for the big MS 150 ride in April (happy birthday to me!) and thought that we could manage to pull the kids in the trailer for half of the ride each.

Now everyone think about that statement. 12.5 miles for each of us hauling approximatly 70 pounds of kids and trailer behind us. Not to mention pedaling our own tushes down the street. IN THE WIND! The wind and the whining is really what did us in. Trey was on the edge of catching the sick from the kids and I had been up many times in the night to settle little people that woke up because they couldn’t breath out of their noses. Too bad Delaney and Noah can’t manage to time their wake-ups together. Between the two of them I had been up 7 times throughtout the night. AND we got up early to get to Katy for the ride. Everyone knows how well Trey does in the morning before 9am.

But, we were ambitious, got everything and everyone loaded and made it to the ride sign-in just before they closed. We were on our way on the bikes and had to climb a big hill from a dead stop right of the bat. I ended up behind Trey so he could set the pace since he had the trailer for the first leg of the ride. Not even 5 miles into riding the whining and crying commenced. Both kid’s helmets had slid forward covering their faces. And they had rivers of snot coming out of their noses. We could see the entrance to Missy and Oswaldo’s neighborhood in the distance, so we told each other that if the kids continued to cry all the way to the entrance we would just turn in and see what the Nass family was up to and abandon our ride.

10 minutes later we were standing in front of the Nass house and calling Missy. SURPRISE! It’s not even 9 am and we are on your front doorstep, please take pity on us and let us in.

Missy took me back to our car while the guys watched the kids. The kids had a blast in the backyard and we had a great time catching up with each other until Missy’s hungry pregnant tummy and my (I have no excuse) tummy decided it was time for lunch. We loaded up and went to a cute little cafe in Fulshear called Essence. Everything was fresh and tasty. Our server was a bit spacey, but she mentioned that she had 4 younger siblings and didn’t even hear all of the noise made by Delaney and Isa so she immediatly went on my favorite person list.

On our way home Delaney and Noah fell asleep in the car, so Trey and I took some serious backroads to get home so they could nap. It was great, Trey was trapped in the car with no computer to distract him so we go to have a real adult conversation with no kid or computer interruptions.

The rest of the afternoon and evening we just hung out at the house and cleaned up some stuff. The open windows let in a nice breeze and after the kids were put to bed I had a chance to read a bit.

Sunday was gloriously uneventful, grocery shopping in the morning and hanging out at home for the rest of the day.

So Cute, so adorable, so perfect

So we lucked out. We have 2 adorable little kids to play with everyday. Though they can get you completely tired, we will work through that one and hopefully get them on some sort of schedule in the next 3 weeks. Delaney was a great trooper throughout the weekend, but the crabby’s starting showing up late sunday night. She is just aching for more attention since Noah has arrived. Its expected though and we have been lenient, but she has been steadily approaching timeoutville and spanking land.

All together though, we have been doing fabulous, and big thank yous go out to the family that came down this weekend. Your assistance and company was greatly appreciated. There are great new pictures of the family in the gallery which will be undergoing some updating as I try to reorganize the pictures. Have fun viewing!

Noah is here!

Baby Noah Washington Jones was born today February 26, 2008 at 8:52 PM. He was 8lbs, 6.5 ounces, and 18.5 inches long.

He is 100% super cute, and has a nice set of lungs on him. He is quite the happy little guy and latched on to mom without an issue. I know I will do my best to make sure he is one of the happiest little babies I know kind of like his big sister Delaney.

Speaking of Delaney, she hasn’t seen him yet, and will tomorrow when Grandma comes over to see the baby.

Mom is also doing quite well and she is in good spirits. Hopefully tonight she can get some good rest as she hasn’t been the most comfortable person for the last few weeks. I think she will sleep like a log.

I have taken over!

I am now the official blog writer on this site. Why you might ask? Well it’s easy, Trey isn’t consistent with his blogs, and I have lots of time on my hands (since he does all the real baby work anyway).

OH HOW I love that Trey, he is soooooo cool. I think I will let him live another day.

Delaney is 18 months old!

18 months ago, she was well…. Still in Cat’s belly. Now she is out, about and taking over! No we appreciate ever moment we have spent with her. Those that say that a new baby is a life altering event are very correct. I have found that to be the greatest understatement I have every heard. I am not sure what you become, but I will say its definately different and has been very introspective.

Delaney is now speaking, though not full sentences yet. She also knows quite a bit of American Sign Language. She is a extreme fan of the show “Signing Time”. It seems to be the most connected piece of educational entertainment she has grasped yet, and I can even stand to see it 40 times without an issue. Now that is some patience! The songs are catchy and Delaney definately enjoys it.

Catherine is getting bigger by the week. The belly is growing well and part II will be here in late Q1 2008. I think I am ready for number 2, but it will be another adjustment to our ever changing lifestyle. We do not know the sex of part II and we aren’t going to find out. This one will be a surprise so we need to get some names ready for the baby. Right now I think we have an established boys name, but that has caught our fancy for a girls name yet. Its alright though, we have lots of time for that.

Its spring time

Well its spring time 2007, so what does that mean? Well time to get outside and have some fun. Now I know here in houston, we don’t actually have a winter so we are outside most of the “winter” months anyway, but things aren’t nearly as green, nor are the pools open. Its time for some swimming.

Delaney is walking better and better each day. I think soon she will find her land legs and be off and running. For now, you can trip her up with a leaf on the ground. Its fine though, if she can’t walk I get to hold her little softness longer.

Delaney is almost 1

We had Delaney’s 1st birthday party Houston today. Why do I call it Houston? Well, we are having a 2nd shindig in San Antonio next weekend.

The party went very well as many of our friends came over and had a good time with Delaney. The little guys and gals played admirably and the adults even got in some horseshoes. Delaney was quite happy about the entire situation and definately enjoyed her cake.

Pics should be up tomorrow.
