Tennis Season is Here!

I am 2-0 this season already with a great win today 6-1, 6-2.

Cat just started, but failed to match her first opponent. I am blissfully happy that Catherine is playing in real league matches. It’s hard to hold in the excitement I have after she comes back from her match. I think I will watch a bit of her match this Friday evening and cheer her on.

Christmas time is here

Well its the week of Christmas and all through the house, Delaney was crawling and standing with ease.  Then she gives you a great christmas Cheese (that’s a smile!).  She plops to the floor with a thud and looks around.  Who out there saw me fall to the ground?  Well its just Mom and Dad you see, but sometimes Uncle David gets to watch this feat.
Christmas in Missouri City

We took Christmas pictures a week ago.  Though we are in sweaters, it was pretty nice outside (lower 60’s)  Hopefully it will stay that way.  Cold weather is not one of the things I remember or want to remember about christmas.  I like seeing kids ride their new bikes in jeans and a t-shirt playing outside on Christmas day.  Don’t get me wrong, a few days of cold is always fun, but lets do it the week after Christmas just not on Christmas day.

This is also Delaney’s first Christmas.  I think she will be fine with some wrapping paper, a few boxes, a bow, and a big wooden spoon that she can bang on things with.  However I bet she gets more presents than anyone this year.

Turkey Day is over and I am not Huge!

Well I guess I am still pretty big, but I only gained 1 pound over the great food excursion of 2006.  Cat and Delaney both had a great time hanging out with the Grand parents and family.  We came back home safely after a 4 day stint in San Antonio with lots of food, family and fun.

Now that we are back in Houston, its time to get the Christmas lights up and get everything ready for Delaney’s first Christmas!  Hopefully she will get a present or 2 (or 10) under the tree.  I am thinking a wooden spoon and some tupperware, and maybe an old remote with no batteries.  She loves remote controls and banging on things.

It is official, Delaney is a very accomplished crawler, and will pull up on anything to stand.  She is going to start walking soon, so we are battening down the hatches, so she doesn’t hurt herself in the process.

SO  I decided to do a little work on the website, and I am adding the videos page finally.  Here is a teaser video of Delaney bouncing in the swing today.  She is surely getting big and full of personality.  I love the 2 little sprigs of hair tufts that her mom put her in.

Delaney Bouncing

Everyone Enjoy and have a good weekend!

Man I have been slacking!

Well we have had a lot of changes.  Delaney is now 6 months old, and lots of new pictures of her are available in the gallery.  I just got back from Toronto, Ontario as I have been travelling for work, and Catherine is down in Corpus Christy enjoying the beach.  I was a bump on a stump so I stayed home with the baby.

Just me and Delaney for the weekend!  So lots of chicken wings and baby milk!

Delaney seems to have levelled off?

She seems to have stopped her torrid growth, and has calmed down to a slower growth rate.  I thought we might be headed for a giant, but I guess we will just get a cute big girl!.  New pics of Delaney are up in the Gallery.  DelaneyMonth5
Oh and I interviewed at a really intriguing company on Friday.  NewField Explorations.  Now I know everyone thinks, oil company in Houston, aren’t they everywhere?  Well yes they are, but this one is just the right size and the people there were really interesting.  A nice 3.5 hour interview later, and I hope I made enough of a good impression that they will ask me to work there.  I am pretty sure I would say yes.

Playing with a Mac

Posted on July 8th, 2006 by Trey.

So recently I have gotten a burr in my britches to configure a mac for linux.  Now I run debian based linux distributions for my media server, and my laptop for work, but never on a mac.  Also mostly at home, I tend to use windows XP for its sheer gaming capabilities (not to mention Outlook from my exchange server).  So I figured this would take a night or 2 to get configured.

Well I found out a few things rather quickly.  First I started with Fedora Core 5.  It is based off of red hat, so most of the structure was a bit different than my normal setups.  I gave it a good college try installing it on the apple iBook, but there was one major issue.  NO SOUND.  Yeah I loaded all the libraries and checked my configs twice.  I could get it to load the drivers, but not to make noise.

So try number 2.  The next evening I went back to debian based linux and tried Ubuntu 6.06 LTS for PPC.  It worked like a charm.  Everything worked right out of the box using the Gnome desktop.  The only drawback is that I lost sound when switching to KDE.  I got it working and all was good… or so I thought.

One glaring issue with a Mac is lack of support for things that most windows user’s take for granted.  I mean Apple is less than 9% of the computer market, so I can understand developer’s not catering to them (especially if they are running linux).  So the issue?  Flash.  Flash 8 just does not work on PPC.  That is a deal breaker for me, so I guess back to OSX.

OSX is not a bad operating system, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t prefer it over windows or Linux.  Both of those allow a geek like me to do more.  That is all.  Oh well, OSX is pretty, so I guess it will have to do.  Officially the iBook is running OSX 10.4.7 Tiger.

Independence Weekend

Well not really right?  I mean the fourth of July is on a Weekday that is not adjacent to the weekend, so most of America has to take a vacation day (whether it be floating or otherwise) to be able to have this day off.  Its fine for me, but I think we should get a summer break off like many other countries do.  I mean look at Germany where half of the country has more than 3 weeks vacation.

Oh, well I will enjoy the time I have off.  Hopefully it won’t go too fast.

So delaney may be getting some teeth in that little mouth. She has been a little be arnery since they are coming down. I think its a bit early, and it looks like the top ones are going to come out first, but its just a tiny tiny tooth showing.

Overall, we are doing great. Cat and I have been working a lot, so I can’t wait for the July 4th 4-5 day weekend. I think we could all use the break.

It’s Father’s day!

So today is the first father’s day that I have my daddy card. Kind of interesting, but nothing unanticipated. Other than the fact that everyone is wishing me a happy father’s day. That is a little surreal.

Ooh, and Delaney was mean to me! She was tired and cranky, and needed sleep, but didn’t want to go to sleep. Its ok though, mom came to the rescue. We posted some new pictures from our antics today and many others from days where I forgot to post pics (oooops.)

Have a great father’s day everyone!
